Originally from England, Rosie Catmur has called the Gunnison valley home since 1988, when she & her husband Martin moved here from Denver with their children Emma & Nicholas. They owned & operated the Cristiana Guesthaus in Crested Butte for almost thirty years until they sold the business in 2017. Due to bad weather, they were not able to do so and were never able to hike together again before cancer claimed their friend’s life. In honor of her friend and her father, who she also lost to cancer, Rosie is grateful to be a part of all Living Journeys does to support those in our community battling cancer.

Marlene Crosby, Board Member

Retired Public Works Director, Current President of the Gunnison Cemetery District Board

Marlene Crosby has the rare distinction of being a native of Gunnison.  She was born and raised in Gunnison, and graduated from Gunnison High School.  She attended Western State College for one year and then spent 3 years in Madrid, Spain.  Returning to Gunnison she worked as a teacher’s aide which resulted in her return to WSC and changing her major to Elementary Education/Business Administration.  In 1985, she was hired at Gunnison County Road and Bridge as an Administrative Assistant.  She was the first woman to work in that department.  She loved her job and the people she worked with, and for, and retired as Public Works Director in 2022 after 37 years of service.

Marlene and her husband Don have two children and 3 granddaughters that are very important in their lives.   She serves as President of the Gunnison Cemetery District Board.  She has been active in fraternal organizations that serve the community for over 50 years.  Currently she supports her husband in his role as president of the Gunnison Home Association.  They are active volunteers at both the Palisades Senior RV Park and at the Willows Assisted Living.

Ski Patroller at Crested Butte Mountain Resort

Krista moved to the Gunnison Valley in 1985 to go to college and decided there was no place on Earth more beautiful. After college Krista started her own landscaping company for summer work and also became a professional ski patroller to fill her need to ski everyday in the winter. One summer the Peak Hike was imagined. This incredible journey for people living with cancer inspired Krista to volunteer every year until the year she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to turn to Living Journeys for help. After living her cancer journey with her family of boys and dear friends close by, it became a goal to give back and find ways to help others living their cancer journey. Krista is proud to be a board member and hopes to continue to support this community through Living Journeys any way possible, and to support each recipients’ cancer journey with unending love and the comfort of support.

Julie Reid

Julie Reid, Executive Director

Julie Reid was born and raised in Michigan.  After graduating from High School, she traveled and discovered Crested Butte, Co and attended Western Colorado University. She fell in love with the surrounding beauty and open space, but has made Gunnison Valley home for the last 20 years because of the incredible community. She married her high school love Billy Laird and had 2 daughters, Lillian and Aubrey.  Having a devoted interest in yoga she became a certified Yoga instructor and began teaching classes locally.  She worked as a fundraiser and event coordinator for the Colorado Association of Naturopathic Doctor’s.

She is passionate about helping others and giving back to the community and Living Journeys was a perfect fit.  Julie is honored to join the Living Journeys team as the Executive Director and to have the opportunity to work for this valuable organization providing important support to Gunnison Valley community members impacted by cancer.  She has lost family and friends to this difficult disease and completely agreed with Living Journeys vision: that no one should fight cancer alone!

The daughter of USAID foreign service officers, Kirsten was born in Kenya and grew up in Africa and Washington DC. She first came to Colorado to attend the University of Denver and she discovered the Gunnison Valley as a ski bum shortly after graduation. Kirsten is eager to bring her experience in the nonprofit communications and program management to Living Journeys and looks forward to helping the organization expand its reach and programs.  She lost her mother to cancer when she was 22, as well as multiple family members and friends. Over the past 15 years, Steve has worked throughout the west in every facet of the cannabis industry. His depth of experience in the space inspired the launch of his consulting company in 2016 where he worked with struggling businesses to realign operations, fine-tune processes, and increase sales. Steve is currently serving his second 4-year term as town councilor for the Town of Mt Crested Butte. He also serves as a board member for the Regional Transportation Authority and the Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority.
