Living Journeys

Ortho-Bionomy with Karen Reader

Karen has intensely pursued mountain culture her entire adult life and had a clear vision of the quintessential mountain town she wanted to find.  Vision and reality melded in Crested Butte when she arrived in the winter of 1996/97.

For the past 20 years or so, Karen has worked in the fields of Adaptive Sports, Adventure Education and as a Ski Industry professional maintaining enough gigs to support the habit…Karen’s work, however, varied has consistently been directed toward helping people understand themselves better through intention and grit, having synthesized experiences, pursuing and discovering the spark that makes them want to experience flow, and perhaps seeking something that is at once stimulating and miraculously calming.

For Karen, working to understand and practice Ortho has been an enlightening process because the capacity for healing with the work is incredibly far-reaching.  The journey has been humbling because of its complexity and layers and the path has been an unexpected and a seemingly continual lesson in humility, clarity, awareness and compassion.

What is Ortho-Bionomy?

Ortho-Bionomy is an effective therapeutic treatment that works with the body’s structure to access and improve function.  Treatments are fully clothed and they are hands-on typically with varying degree of density.  Working with and educating the nervous system to create pattern awareness and alternatives for those patterns, Ortho-Bionomy has the depth to be integrated for actual change in the body. Ortho as a modality helps with acute issues, surgery prep, surgery recovery, chronic pain, illness, nervous system calming/restoration – the work shores the entire system and therefore enhances overall wellness, well-being and vitality.

Ortho-Bionomy is relevant and appropriate work for a broad spectrum of people and the issues that arise along the life-cycle.  This modality is an opportunity to get our systems back over the threshold for effective functioning – giving space for wellness.  Ortho is comfortable, non-pharmaceutical, the work moves us away from pain, and it not only restores the functioning of our nervous system but moves us closer and directly towards resiliency.
